📊 Strategies & Comparison

What's the difference between Snowball and Avalanche?

Debt Snowball:

  • Pays off smallest debts first
  • Provides quick psychological wins
  • Keeps you motivated
  • May pay slightly more interest

Debt Avalanche:

  • Pays off highest interest rate debts first
  • Saves the most money on interest
  • Mathematically optimal
  • First payoff may take longer

Use the Compare tab to see both side-by-side and choose what works best for you!

How do I run "what if" scenarios?

  1. Go to the Scenarios tab
  2. View your current baseline payoff plan
  3. Enter an extra monthly payment amount (e.g., $200)

  6. See how much time and interest you'll save!

🔔 Notifications & Reminders

How do payment reminders work?

PayoffPilot can remind you before your payments are due:

  • When you add a debt with a due date, a reminder is automatically scheduled
  • You'll receive a notification 3 days before each payment is due
  • The notification includes the debt name, institution, and amount
  • When you pay off a debt, reminders are automatically canceled

To enable notifications, go to your iPhone Settings > PayoffPilot > Notifications and turn them on.

🛠️ Troubleshooting

The app won't calculate my payoff schedule

Make sure you've:

  1. Added at least one debt
  2. Set up your financial profile with income and budget
  3. Set a debt budget greater than your total minimum payments

If your monthly budget is less than your minimum payments, the app will show an error message asking you to increase your budget.

I'm not receiving payment reminders

Check these settings:

  1. Ensure you've added a payment due date to your debts
  2. Check iPhone Settings > PayoffPilot > Notifications is enabled
  3. Make sure "Allow Notifications" is turned on
  4. Check that your due date is in the future (not past)

How do I edit a debt?

  1. Go to Debts tab
  2. Tap on the debt you want to edit
  3. Tap Edit in the top-right
  4. Make your changes
  5. Tap Save
